Florian Boesch received his initial vocal training from Kammersängerin Ruthilde Boesch and in 1997 he bagan studies at the Universität für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna, concentrating ultimately on the fields of lieder and oratorio, where his teacher was Robert Holl.
In October 2003 the baritone made his debut with the Opernhaus Zürich as Papageno, followed by a number of Mozart parts Figaro, Conte, Leporello, Giovanni, and Guglielmo. In summer 2004 he made his debut with the Salzburg Festival as Polizeikommissar/ DER ROSENKAVALIER (Semyon Bychkov/ Robert Carsen) followed by appearances as Papageno, Gugliemlo and Figaro at the Staatstheater Stuttgart. During the last seasons Boesch could be seen at the Staatsoper Hamburg, the Theater an der Wien, the Bregenzer Festspiele, the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, in Amsterdam, New York and Tokyo.
Besides his career as an opera singer Florian Boesch is also a frequent guest on the concert platform, his repertoire includes works of Bach, Handel, Mozart, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Pergolesi or Beethoven.
Highlights in his career have been a concert with UN BALLO IN MASCHERA/ Silvano under the baton of Marcello Viotti, Tiridate in Handel`s RADAMISTO in the frame of the Salzburger Pfingstfestspiele, Mozart’s C-MOLL MESSE and Bach’s MATTHÄUS PASSION at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Further he sang Vivaldi’s FARNACE/ Aquilio at the Wiener Konzerthaus, MATTHÄUS PASSION at the Auditorio di Milano under Riccardo Chailly, Mozart’s KRÖNUNGSMESSE at the Berliner Konzerthaus and several concerts with the OsterKlang festival in Vienna.
Florian Boesch regularly works with Adam Fischer (e.g. at the Int. Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt), Martin Haselboeck (RADAMISTO in Spain, MESSIAH at the Wiener Musikverein and concerts in the US), and Nikolaus Harnoncourt (Handel’s ALEXANDERFEST, Haydn’s ORLANDO PALADINO and Beethoven’s CHRISTUS AM ÖLBERGE with the styriarte festival, Schubert’s LAZARUS, Mozart’s ZAIDE, C-MOLL MESSE and VESPERAE DE DOMNICA at the Wiener Musikverein and in Lucerne).
The 2006/2007 took him to the Hamburg where he sang Tiridate in Handel’s RADAMISTO with the Staatsoper (conductor: Martin Haselboeck, stage designer: Marco Arturo Marelli) as well as Mozart’s REQUIEM with Hamburg Ballett. Furthermore Boesch appeared at the Theater an der Wien (Bernhard Lang - I HATE MOZART and MOZART REQUIEM), at the Lucerne Festival (Salieri - PRIMA LA MUSICA) and at the Wiener Musikverein (Handel - APOLLO E DAFNE, HUGO WOLF LIEDER under M. Jurowski and Mozart - VESPERAE DE DOMINICA under N. Harnoncourt). He also could be heard as Papageno at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, the Staatstheater Stuttgart and at the Wiener Volksoper.
During the past years Florian Boesch also became an acclaimed Liedsänger with appearances at the Schubertiade festival Schwarzenberg, Edinburgh Festival, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels and Birmingham, London Wigmore Hall, LSO St. Luke`s London. Furthermore he did Schubert’s WINTERREISE in New York City, Tokyo, Vienna and Graz.
The 07/08 season included performances of RADAMISTO/ Tiridate with the Staatsoper Hamburg, MOZART REQUIEM in Salzburg under Ivor Bolton, DIE SCHÖPFUNG in Bordeaux as well as in Budapest under Adam Fischer, several concerts in Spain (Bach cantatas with Gustav Leonhardt, Haydn’s NELSON MESSE and Bach’s WEIHNACHTSORATORIUM), MATTHÄUS PASSION and ZAUBERFLÖTE at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, BRAHMS REQUIEM with Ph. Herreweghe, Handel’s ACIS AND GALATEA/ Polyphemus in Vienna and Germany, and Mozart`s KRÖNUNGSMESSE under N. Harnoncourt. In June Mr. Boesch debutet with the Handel festival Halle when performing the part of Gobryas in Handel`s BELSHAZZAR and also gave an outstanding solo-recital debut at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
The 08/09 season will include Handel`s PARTENOPE (Chr. Rousset/ P. Audi) and MESIAH (J.-Chr. Spinosi/ C. Guth), both with the Theater an der Wien and Mozart`s ZAUBERFLÖTE with the Bolshoi Moscow. Mr Boesch will appear at the Wiener Musikverein (Haydn – PAUKENMESSE, G. Prêtre and Schubert – ES DUR MESSE, F. Welser-Möst)), Mozarteum Salzburg (MOZART REQUIEM, G. Albrecht), the Festspielhaus Salzburg (Haydn – HARMONIEMESSE, N. Harnoncourt), and at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées. Further he will do recitals at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Mozarteum Salzburg, with Oxford Lieder Festival and with the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg (duo recital with Genia Kühmeier), and Festival für Alte Musik Innsbruck, as well in London, Italy and Spain.
In April 2007 Florian Boesch was awarded the prestigious Russian honory Golden Mask for his interpretation of the part of Papageno at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow (conductor: St. Bedford/ stage director: G. Vick).
