Christianne Stotijn, mezzo-soprano

Christianne Stotijn gained her solo diploma for violin in 2000 at the Amsterdam Conservatoire. She pursued her vocal studies in Metz, London, and Amsterdam where, under supervision of Udo Reinemann, she graduated in 2003 with the highest distinction. Since then, her vocal coaches have included Noelle Barker and Udo Reinemann and Jard van Nes. Currently she is being coached by Dame Janet Baker.

Christianne Stotijn has won several prizes including the 2005/06 ECHO Rising Stars Award and the 2005 Borletti Buitoni Award. In 2005 she joined the BBC New Generation Artists, an award which enables her to collaborate with all the BBC orchestras of renown in the UK.

She has worked with celebrated conductors such as Bernard Haitink, Rene Jacobs, Gustavo Dudamel, Sir Andrew Davis, Jaap van Zweden, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Philippe Herreweghe, Hartmut Haenchen, Frans Brüggen, and Mark Wigglesworth, and has performed with leading orchestras such as The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Die Akademie für Alte Musik, Orchestre des Champs Elysées, Orchestre National de France, Concerto Köln, Sinfonietta Amsterdam, Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, the Residence Orchestra, and the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition, she has had guest performances at several festivals such as the Delft Chamber Music festival, Gergiev Festival, La Roque d'Anteron, Festival d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence and also at The Proms in The Royal Albert Hall, London.

Christianne Stotijn is an impassioned performer of songs working, within the chamber music context, with her regular duo partners Joseph Breinl, Julius Drake and David Selig. With them she has appeared in the world’s premier concert halls such as Kleine Zaal, Grote Zaal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall London, Konzerthaus and Musikverein Vienna, Carnegie Hall New York, Théâtre des Champs Elysées and Théâtre du Châtelet Paris, Mozarteum Salzburg, Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels and Teatro alla Scala, Milan.

Christianne Stotijn records exclusively for Onyx Classics having already recorded a CD of songs by Schubert, Berg and Wolf with Joseph Breinl and Mahler songs with Julius Drake. In February 2006, she recorded Frank Martin’s Die Weise von Liebe und Tod des Cornets Christoph Rilke for MDG.

In 2003 Christianne Stotijn made her operatic debut with the Nationale Reisopera where she sang Carilda in Händel's Arianna in Creta. She has also performed Pauline in Pique Dame by Tchaikovsky at the Opéra National de Paris, Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri at the Festival d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence and Ottavia in L’Incoronazione di Poppea and Arianna in Lamento d’Arianna at the Netherlands Opera.

Future operatic engagements include Cornelia in Giulio Cesare at the Theatre de la Monnaie in Brussels, Netherlands Opera and Bilbao Opera and title role in the new production of Tamerlano at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
