Luis Cabrera, double bass

  Luis Cabrera was born in Madrid in 1985. After studying at the "Consevatorio Joaquin Turina" in Madrid, he moves to London in 2003 to complete his studies at the "Guildhall School of Music & Drama" with Rinat Ibragimov.

In May of 2004 he wins the 1st prize at the "Ida carrol double bass award" at the RNCM in Manchester. Luis has been awarded several prizes from different organisations such as the "Royal Philharmonic society", the "Philharmonia orchestra award" and the "Jeunesses Musicales Scholarship" among others. The double bass he plays was purchased with help from the "Wolfson Foundation". Luis has given solo recitals in different venues all over Spain, The Netherlands, England and Germany. He has participated in recording sessions for the BBC, EMI Classics and Pentatone.

As an orchestral player, Luis has played with the "London Symphony Orchestra", “The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra” and the "Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment" and he is guest principal bass with the Northern Sinfonia in Newcastle, The London Mozart Players, the DN-Kammerphilharmonie, the and the Amsterdam Sinfonietta.
Since 2006, He is the Principal double bass with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra" in Amsterdam, which he combines which his other solo and chamber music activities.
