Benjamin Alard (born in1985) started the piano at age 7. He later studied organ and harpsichord, respectively with Louis Thiry & François Ménissier, and Elisabeth Joyé, developing an interest in early music that led him to the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis for further studies with Jean-Claude Zehnder (organ) and Andrea Marcon (harpsichord). His studies where distinguished by the «félicitations» of the jury when he finished the programme. Awarded by the 1st Prize and the Audience Award, Alard won the 2004 Bruges International Harpsichord Competition that garnered in the past Pierre Hantai and Scott Ross. He is also a laureate of «Déclic 2005/2006», a joint Radio-France, Cultures France and Société Générale Bank support & sponsoring programme for young talented French artists. Benjamin Alard was appointed organist at the church of St-Louis-en-l’Île in Paris, where he plays on the new instrument by Aubertin in 2005. In 2007, he is chosen to be Laureate Juventus. In September 2007, he won the first price of the Gottfried-Silbermann organ contest in Freiberg (Germany) and the special price Hildebrandt given by the Foundation Zacharias-Hildebrandt-Stiftung Naumburg. As recitalist on both harpsichord and organ, Benjamin Alard has been invited to perform in prestigious early music festivals and venues: Le Printemps des Arts of Nantes, La Folle Journée (Nantes and Lisbon), Festival of Saintes, ‘Flagey’ Hall in Brussels, Festival Radio France in Montpellier, Bach festival in Schaffausen, Festival Bach in Lausanne, Festival de Saint-Michel en Thiérache, Les Midis du Musée du Louvre in Paris, Bach festival in Istanbul, etc. He also collaborates with leading ensembles such as La Petite Bande (dir. S. Kuijken), Capriccio Stravagante (dir. S. Sempé), Venise Baroque Orchestra (dir. A. Marcon). As a young and promising talent, he was chosen for the « discovery CD» for Classica Repertoire Magazine recorded in may 2005. Benjamin Alard Cd “Andreas Bach Buch” recorded in 2006 by label Hortus Editions was distinguished by the critics (Cinq de Goldberg, Crescendo magazine, le Monde de la Musique, Diapason, Classica Répertoire, Le Monde….) His latest Cd, “Transcriptions” dedicated to transcriptions by J.S Bach, was released in 2007 (Editions Hortus) was rewarded, amongst other, with a “Choc” by Le Monde de la Musique. |
